Residential LifeNestled among Italian Cypress and palm trees, swimming pool and spa, UWest offers students the opportunity to live in community and study in a beautiful and tranquil atmosphere. With panoramic views of the San Gabriel Valley, UWest’s Residence Halls sits atop a hill surrounded by nature in the community of Rosemead. University of the West Residence Halls named Dealy-Klann: Westview Manor (A) and Miller: Hillcrest Manor, (B) commonly referred to as Residence Hall A and Residence Hall B. Currently, UWest offers three living-learning options. You are able to choose between a double room (shared with another student), and triple room (shared with two other students) and for returning students the opportunity to choose a single room. Each room also has its own hotel-style bathroom. All rooms come equipped with a basic telephone and wireless internet access. There is a lounge with a TV in both Hall A and Hall B on the first floor. These lounges are popular gathering spaces for residents. Both residence halls also have study rooms. There are several computers with internet access available in the study room in Hall A. Both study rooms are strictly quiet study areas. We require students, who need to work on a group project, to choose elsewhere, so that the places remain quiet spaces for other residents. Between the two residence halls are a swimming pool and a spa, and a small lawn with a gazebo. You’ll sometimes find residents kicking a soccer ball around on the lawn, or relaxing in the spa after a long day studying and working. Across from the residence halls is the Dining Hall, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, except certain holidays. On the weekends, students can use the Student Kitchen below the Dining Hall to cook meals. You’ll often find students relaxing together watching television and enjoying a meal. All resident students are required to participate in the UWest Meal Plan. Also below the Dining Hall is the Gym Room with weight lifting and cardio exercise equipment, and the Game Room, with ping pong and pool available. Students check-out Game Room equipment from the Residential Life office in the Lobby Area of Hall A and return it when they are finished. Please note that UWest is a dry campus, meaning alcohol is not allowed anywhere on campus property. All of the buildings are also smoke free. Smoking areas have been designated outside for your use. Students under 18 are prohibited to smoke according to California State Law. Residential Life PhilosophyThe Residence Halls are a living and learning community. In conjunction with the mission of the University of the West, residence hall staff members place great value on the education of the “whole person.” It is our hope that you will increase your academic ability, learn more about yourself, grow in your experiences with other people, have a greater appreciation and understanding between the East and West, and of your local and global community. To accomplish this goal requires respect, tolerance, and the safety of all residents. An easy way to remember our philosophy is the 3 Rs of community living: Respect for Self Respect for Others Respect for the Community Environment |
