University of the West professor of Buddhism Rev. Danny Fisher emceed a free-wheeling conversation between Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges and Roshi Bernie Glassman on January 10 as part of ALOUD program, sponsored by the LA County Library Foundation. Bridges, well-known for his role as “the dude” in the film The Big Lebowski, coauthored a book with Glassman called “The Dude and the Zen Master.” Rev. Fisher emceed a conversation between Bridges, Glassman and the audience about the new book, which is purported to be a conversation in its own right between a student and teacher. Bridges has been studying Buddhism for more than a decade, according to the ALOUD program. Glassman is known for founding Zen Peacemakers and for his work developing jobs, housing and program for low-income individuals and families. Rev. Danny Fisher is the coordinator of the Master of Divinity in Buddhist Chaplaincy program at University of the West as well as an up-and-coming author and blogger. He is also an ordained Buddhist minister and environmental activist.
