| Policy and Procedure for English Placement Test |

The English Placement Test is designed to measure a student’s proficiency in the English language, with particular focus on academic language. Students with three or more years of successful participation in a college or university academic program where English was the main language of instruction are generally not required to take the English Placement Test. The test is administered during the week prior to the start of, and within one week after each semester (Fall, Spring and Summer) and when necessary, by appointment. Actual test dates may vary, but will be posted here in the Academic English/ESL department. EPT Date and Time: ESL Level Testing: The English Placement TestThe EPT consists of three sections: A written booklet section, an oral interview, and a writing sample. The written booklet section has a time limit of one hour and consists of 100 multiple-choice question that cover listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. The oral interview is a one-on-one conversation with an ESL faculty member. The writing sample has a time limit of one half-hour, and requires students to answer one writing prompt. Test Scores and RecommendationsTotal test scores are compiled and reviewed by the EPT Evaluation Committee. The results of the Committee evaluation will determine student placement as:
