The Department of Continuing Education aims at educating men and women in the development of their knowledge and social skills so that they will be able to provide effective services to their communities. The program makes the educational resources of University of the West available to a wider community and provides an avenue by which students can take degree courses without being officially enrolled in a degree or certificate program at the University. Continuing education courses are offered for a fee and in a variety of formats (intensive classes, seminars, workshops, etc.) for interested members of the academic community and the general public. They include credit and non-credit courses. Programs will be specially designed to enable people to seek their ideals of life-long learning at their own pace. The Hispanic, Chinese, and other Asian communities will be served by providing English language instruction, courses in American culture, and business-related courses that facilitate a deeper understanding of the West. Similarly, English-speaking American community will have facilities to study Buddhism and other Eastern Religions, Chinese Language and Literature and Chinese Culture. In addition, the Department provides customized short-term training programs to executives and professionals from overseas; including: (1) educational supervision, administration, and instruction programs for school principals, and teachers; (2) intensive and certificate courses in such areas as marketing, finance, strategic management, entrepreneurship, small business management, international business, management of non-profit organizations/institutions, leadership, conflict resolution and negotiation, to executives and managers. |
